Cancellations – direct bookings vs. OTAs

Feb 23, 2023smart marketing, Websites

In the latest installment from my chat with Lizzy from Sweet Donside Cabins in Scotland, we talk about cancellations. Specifically the difference between managing your own bookings (and cancellations) and those that come via the OTAs (online travel agents).

When guests book direct, they are advised to take out their own travel insurance to cover themselves should anything happen so they are not able to make it and they have to cancel. That takes the onus off the owner. The cancellation policy is in the Ts & Cs. So guests know what they are agreeing to at the time of booking. The knock-on effect is that Lizzy gets very few cancellations from those guests. Have a quick watch of this short video (it’s just under two minutes long) to find out more:

This is the fourth in a blog series about a holiday rentals experience of getting her own direct booking website. The full conversation is around 23 minutes if you want to watch it all.
